Director of Children's Choir Ministry
MusicQuest is the umbrella under which music groups for children ages 3 through 5th grade are gathered. Our purpose is to TELL children about God through musical activities, TEACH them foundational Bible truths through song, and TRAIN them to take what they learn and share it with others.
MusicQuest meets on Sundays during the evening service throughout the school year.
Musical Activities for Preschoolers have a focus of teaching music basics of rhythm, pitch, melody, form and expressive qualities. This is done in a context of play and activity to make learning music a fun experience. These groups present what they have learned each year at Parent Nights held in the spring. There are three preschool groups. There are groups for 3 year olds, 4 year olds, and 5 year olds.
Come, Praise and Sing, is the name give to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade groups. COMPASS has a focus of teaching music as worship and outreach, as well as presentation skills for performance. This is done through hymn memory, presentations in worship services, outreach to the community and special musical presentations. This form of learning insures that the truths they learn are hidden in their hearts for life. Outreach opportunities for 1st through 3rd grades include presenting programs in nursing homes as well as singing in worship services. Every three years this group presents a musical to give them experience in presentation before they enter 4th grade.
God’s Praise Squad, focuses on presentation skills and preparing programs for ministry. The 4th and 5th graders meet together in a large group to learn music, then choose electives that break down into smaller groups. These groups consist of vocal ensemble, puppets, guitar, choreography, handbells and sign language. This breakdown helps to prepare the students for presentation in worship, for use in outreach, and in their yearly musical presentation.
We offer a handbell choir for children in 3rd-8th grades. This group teaches fundamentals of ringing using handbells as well as developing musical ability in the players. The skill level of the group is determined by the experience of those who participate. This group meets on Wednesday afternoons during the school year at 4:45 p.m.
