Pastor of Discipleship Candidate
Steven and Emily Ackley currently live in Murfreesboro, TN where Steven serves as a Campus Pastor at LifePoint Church. Steven and Emily have been married for 15 years and have four children: Brayden (12), Camden (9), Eden (6), and Hadden (2).
After serving at Calvary for more than eleven years in student ministry and young adult ministry, the Ackley’s moved to Middle Tennessee where Steven spent three years leading the NextGen ministries (Preschool thru Young Adults) across three local campuses and has since begun giving leadership to all the discipleship ministries at the main campus of LifePoint and regularly filling the pulpit.
During this season Steven also earned a Doctor of Ministry degree at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary specializing in NextGen Ministry and has written and spoken regularly for Lifeway. Steven is passionate about making disciples of every generation who have heads full of the knowledge of God, hearts full of passion for the glory of God, and a commitment to the mission of God.
Ministry is a family effort for the Ackley’s who love to serve together in their church and community. They also love to have fun, have friends and neighbors in their home, and can often be found at a baseball field or cheering on NC State. The Ackley’s are excited about the potential to come back to serve at Calvary, a place they still call ‘home’.
On behalf of our Personnel Committee and Deacons, we are excited to recommend for your approval Steven Ackley as our next Pastor of Discipleship. As Pastor of Discipleship, Steven will be responsible for setting the vision and direction for the church’s discipleship ministries, including every age range from birth through adults. Additionally, Steven will serve as a part of Calvary’s Executive Leadership Team and Preaching Team.
In early October, after three months of assessment, Pastor Will met with the Personnel Committee to share his desire to begin pursuing our next Pastor of Discipleship. This role is currently vacant and funded in our 2020-2021 budget. With the Personnel Committee’s affirmation, a list of qualified candidates was developed and initial conversations began to gauge interest and calling.
Ultimately the search narrowed to two primary candidates. Pastor Will, along with select members of our Executive Team and Personnel Committee, conducted interviews with each candidate. Following multiple interviews and an in-person conversation with Steven and Emily, we felt compelled to move forward with Steven as our candidate. The next step in the process involved having Steven and Emily interview with the Personnel Committee and Deacons – after which they received unanimous approval and affirmation. Our process’s final step is congregational approval, and thus we have scheduled a church-wide vote on January 10, 2021.
